Title: Securing IoT Communications with Visual Cryptography
Institution: King Faisal University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Duration: 1st August 2024 – 31st July 2026
Supervisor: Prof. (Dr.) Suresh Sankaranarayanan
Abstract: The burgeoning growth of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has brought about significant advancements in various sectors, yet it also introduces substantial security challenges. Traditional cryptographic methods often fall short in providing adequate protection against sophisticated cyber threats targeting IoT communications. This research explores the innovative application of visual cryptography techniques to enhance the security of IoT communications. Visual cryptography, an encryption method that uses images to encrypt and decrypt data, offers a novel approach to safeguard sensitive information transmitted between IoT devices. By leveraging the unique properties of visual cryptography, such as the ability to split an image into multiple shares that reveal the original image only when superimposed, this study proposes a robust framework for securing IoT communications. The framework incorporates advanced image processing algorithms and error correction mechanisms to ensure high reliability and resilience against attacks. Preliminary results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly enhances data confidentiality and integrity, providing a viable solution to the security issues plaguing IoT ecosystems. The findings of this research contribute to the development of secure IoT applications, ensuring the safe and reliable transmission of data in a world increasingly reliant on interconnected devices.
Title: Investigation on Effective Secret Image Recovery Techniques in Visual Cryptography (2018)
Author: John Blesswin A
University: Faculty of Information and Communication Engineering, Anna University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India
Abstract:
This PhD thesis explores the development of effective techniques for recovering secret images in Visual Cryptography (VC). VC is a cryptographic technique that encodes a secret image into multiple shares, allowing the original image to be reconstructed only when a certain number of shares are combined. The thesis focuses on improving the quality of the recovered image and reducing errors introduced during the sharing and reconstruction processes.
Key areas of investigation:
Communication network: Explores how different communication channels and noise levels impact image recovery.
Image recovery: Investigates novel algorithms and techniques for improving the fidelity of the recovered image.
Error reduction: Analyzes methods for minimizing errors caused by factors like compression and transmission noise.
Technological advancements: Discusses the potential of emerging technologies like machine learning to enhance VC security and image recovery.
Overall contribution:
This thesis contributes to the field of VC by proposing innovative techniques and analyzing the impact of various factors on image recovery. The findings advance the understanding of VC capabilities and offer valuable insights for developing robust and reliable image security solutions.
Keywords: Visual cryptography, image recovery, error reduction, communication network, technological advancements
